Hello world!! Its Melatone of April October. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who visited our blog up to this point; if this is your first time here, I would like to welcome you to April October. As explained in a previous post, April October is the new brand for our group that those who are familiar with us know as Chapter 13. We changed the name in effort to usher in a new era of music…our music.
Before I go any further, let me tell you all about who I am, and where my roots are in music.
Since the days of my youth, I have been a devout fan of music. I was introduced to Hip Hop in my neighborhood then located at: 56th and Bishop in the heart of Chicago’s Southside. Like most enthusiast of the art form, I grew up with a fascination with poppin’ and breakin’ at a very, very young age. However, as I grew up, my desire for Emceeing took precedence over my B-boy aspirations after my homeboy Doe Bones taught me to rhyme. When I was 8 yrs old, he ghost-wrote my first rhyme for me, which was so dope at the time; I would spend countless hours writing tirelessly trying to come into my own style and surpass his level of expertise.
After years of studying the art of being a Microphone Controller, and honing my skills for what would become my passion, I began to take my craft very seriously writing raps, traditional poems and even short stories. Candidly speaking, when it came to Emceeing, battling was never my forte, really, I was more into rhymes that painted vivid depictions of life as I understood it to be. As a teenager, Getting high and reading novels by Donald Goines, and Iceberg Slim along with engaging in unplanned freestyle sessions with my friends is what I used to express my imaginative commentaries that transformed me into a lyrical visionary.
By the mid 90’s I met Sp1200 Jedi- gENSu dEAn who produced and helped me record my first song. This solidified all possibilities of bringing my musical dreams to reality. gENSu and I recorded countless joints over the years with me projecting my movie-like visions on the Mic with his raw, sinister, beats as the score to a style and feel of music we used to call B.L.I.N.K.(black life in natural khaos). By the year 2000, he showed how to make beats. I was determined to be Pete Rock in about a week, but it took me 2 weeks to learn how to truncate drums properly!! Things are different now.
I became a member of Chapter13 in 2005, making appearances with Rashid Hadee on the Hip Hop Docktrine 2 mixtape in 2006 on the track entitled “Whatever it Takes.” That was a banger sure enough, and was embraced heavily by Chapter 13 fans everywhere(especially the you-tube crowd). I also appeared with Rashid Hadee and Thaione Davis on the Joint “Problems” on Thaione Davis album “Still hear(2009) and produced the joint “Xpressway” on Rashid Hadee “Dedication”(2007) to name a few. My current release to date is Melatone “Memoirs & Melodies” produced by Rashid Hadee and gENSu dEAn. I also have posted here on April October my new leak “Make it Last” produced by Rashid Hadee .
