Who the F*** is Melatone

Hello world!! Its Melatone of April October. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who visited our blog up to this point; if this is your first time here, I would like to welcome you to April October. As explained in a previous post, April October is the new brand for our group that those who are familiar with us know as Chapter 13.  We changed the name in effort to usher in a new era of music…our music.

Before I go any further, let me tell you all about who I am, and where my roots are in music.

Since the days of my youth, I have been a devout fan of music. I was introduced to Hip Hop in my neighborhood then located at: 56th and Bishop in the heart of Chicago’s Southside.  Like most enthusiast of the art form, I grew up with a fascination with poppin’ and breakin’ at a very, very young age. However, as I grew up, my desire for Emceeing took precedence over my B-boy aspirations after my homeboy Doe Bones taught me to rhyme. When I was 8 yrs old, he ghost-wrote my first rhyme for me, which was so dope at the time; I would spend countless hours writing tirelessly trying to come into my own style and surpass his level of expertise.

After years of studying the art of being a Microphone Controller, and honing my skills for what would become my passion, I began to take my craft very seriously writing raps, traditional poems and even short stories.  Candidly speaking, when it came to Emceeing, battling was never my forte, really, I was more into rhymes that painted vivid depictions of life as I understood it to be. As a teenager, Getting high and reading novels by Donald Goines, and Iceberg Slim along with engaging in unplanned freestyle sessions with my friends is what I used to  express my imaginative commentaries that  transformed me into a lyrical visionary.

By the mid 90’s I met Sp1200 Jedi- gENSu dEAn who produced and helped me record my first song. This solidified all possibilities of bringing my musical dreams to reality. gENSu and I recorded countless joints over the years with me projecting my movie-like visions on the Mic with his raw, sinister, beats as the score to a style and feel of music we used to call B.L.I.N.K.(black life in natural khaos).  By the year 2000, he showed how to make beats. I was determined to be Pete Rock in about a week, but it took me 2 weeks to learn how to truncate drums properly!!    Things are different now.

I became a member of Chapter13 in 2005, making appearances with Rashid Hadee on the Hip Hop Docktrine 2 mixtape in 2006 on the track entitled “Whatever it Takes.” That was a banger sure enough, and was embraced heavily by Chapter 13 fans everywhere(especially the you-tube crowd).  I also appeared with Rashid Hadee and Thaione Davis on the Joint “Problems” on Thaione Davis album “Still hear(2009) and produced the joint “Xpressway” on Rashid Hadee “Dedication”(2007) to name a few. My current release to date is Melatone “Memoirs & Melodies” produced by Rashid Hadee and gENSu dEAn.  I also have posted here on April October my new leak “Make it Last” produced by Rashid Hadee .

As we stated in our initial posting, we want you to be right here with us as our story unfolds, and we bring our musical dreams to reality, which is not only to be successful as artist, but to give you the quality of audible pleasure you deserve from good music.              NEW MELATONE LEAK COMING SOON. I Love The Golden Era - Chicago, IL *REVIEW*

What up yall!! Hadee here, and I know it’s been a minute since we posted up. But yeah, I know yall been wondering what went down the other day at my first show in a while. It was a good night, nothing too disasterous happened (other than me getting lost out in the south suburbs after the show). I got a chance to chill with DJ Dice for a little bit (Redman, Das EFX, and Special Ed’s DJ) and that was cool to meet someone that’s been apart of the hip hop scene since the golden days. I also got a chance to meet Special Ed (I know I’ve produced a record that he was on before but that was the first time we met) and he’s a real cool dude.

But anyway, when we first showed up it looked like the place was packed and jumpin’. We was like “Ahh shit, it’s about to go down tonight!!”. But of course, we walked in and it looked totally different than the outside. The main floor literally was empty, but come to find out everybody was on the top floor sitting around (and collecting dust). I took it upon myself to count how many people was there, and it was a total of 63 people! That’s cool, because it coulda been 12 people there, so thats still a blessing, although, still very sad. But events like this is the very reason why we started this #apriloctober blog. We want yall to see the work we put in and watch us grow as artists.

Anyways, my man DJ C-Vicious was spinning some good shit, but nobody seemed to wanna get off their asses. He also didn’t have no Hadee in his playlist either but it’s all good. I shoulda came prepared with some music on a flash drive for him, so I took note: always bring some music for the DJ to play! Lesson learned.

So on to the performance…

First thing I noticed about the stage was this big, huge, colossal, mural of Chicago’s skyline in the background. The shit was big as the actual skyline. I don’t know who decided to put it there, but it definitely was there. The owners should consider getting rid of that, or cover it up with some curtains or something. Anyways, I only did 3 songs, so it wasn’t a difficult performance for me at all. I performed “Rhyme And Reason (Amazing)”, “Get Mine”, and “Feels Good” and I didn’t mess up not once (thank God). I was little rusty but no one seemed to notice (mind you, I haven’t performed solo in almost a year). Everybody enjoyed it and was dappin’ me up when I got off stage. I even got interviewed by L1 from nodyahead.com so hopefully that and his footage will surface soon. All in all, its was a good night and I’m very thankful that I have supportive people in my life like Olskool Ice Gre (my manager) because I would have never had this opportunity without him. Ahh well the story continues. We are on the road to victory! (with a slow start)

Beginning of a new era...

I just want to take this time right now to thank you for coming to our new site. Thanks for all the support over the years from those that are familiar with us, and welcome to anybody that’s new to us. Of course, by now you have noticed this is April October’s blog. I know you maybe wondering, “Who/what the hell is April October?”, so I’ll break it down for you. April October is the collaboration between me (Hadee) and Melatone. Together, we were previously known as Chapter 13. So you can look at it as a simple name change, but more importantly, it’s the beginning of a new era.

We chose to start up this blog website to document this journey that we have in progress. We have the need and the dreams to be successful at what we do, and we want the world to see it. It gets to a point where you can visualize something happening and it is something that you can see so vivid. As our dreams manifest to reality, we want you to see it first hand. As this story unfolds, we want you to be right here with us. That’s what this site is about. This site will be an outlet for our music (past and present) so you can stay up to date with everything April October. So with no further delay, let’s let the story begin….

bookmark and stay tuned!
